The following group studied their World War I vocabulary word.  They used excellent team work and showed their classmates that nationalism is an extreme love of one's country where you think it is/was the best.  As we discussed, it is different than patriotism.  They did a great job.

Wow, these are so much fun! Our two young gentlemen here have explained one of our WWI vocabulary words.  Their word was alliance which means that countries support one another during war times.  Great job, boys!

Immigration Newscasts

Our Social Studies classes have been working on immigration of various groups into the United States. We have been studying about Chinese immigration, Irish immigration, German-Jewish immigration, and Mexican immigration. Students have been studying the following three questions: Why did people immigrate? What were some of the challenges they faced? What did they contribute to the United States? World Report Day 2011

We just finished celbrating our hardwork researching countries around the world. We invited the fourth grade classrooms to see our displays and invited them to learn from us and dine with us on authentic recipes and interactive music and games.
It was a terrific day!

Inference Videoes

Today in Room 111, the students practiced showing inferences. The first video shows nighttime. Video two shows buyuing ice cream from the ice cream truck. They were to complete the project acting out clues and acting like a silent movie. The 111'ers are showing their understanding of they types of inferences- action and time/era. Enjoy!

What We've Been Up To , Lately!

Its been an exciting time in Room 109. It is the end of 2010 and we are wrapping up our units, with awesome common assesments, report cards, conferences, great novels, and tons of projects. Check out our latest and greatest- The Civil War Wax Museum. We were super and everyone who came to visit was improessed and inspired.
You will see some students dressed as Abraham LIncoln, Harriet Tubman, Clara Barton, and Fredrick Douglass. They were all abolitionists.

Civil War: Slavery Debates, 110'ers

The 110'ers took on the difficult subject of slavery. It was their job to pretend they were a person of the Civil War times and present their opinion and reasons as to why the Confederacy supported slavery. Here is a sampling of our hard work. Upon finishing each presentation, we practiced our complimenting. Everyone did a great job and we clear on the reasons the Confederacy wanted to go to Civil War against the Union.

Hi Kids, How Was Thursday?

Well, Mrs. Albandia, Ms. Parkhill, and me, Ms Randolph, just finished presenting your hard work to the teachers and administrators here at the IETC Conference in Springfield.
